One of the main activities visitors to Maui want to try when they get here is surfing. Seems everyone has seen a surfing movie at some point in their lives, and most want to see what the fuss is all about.
There are two ways to get yourself in the water with a board. One is to simply rent one, and head out on your own. Get some info from the place that you rent it from, and paddle out to see what you can learn. Catching a wave is one of the hardest parts, knowing how to time it just right so that you can float down the face. The other hard part is standing up, but thankfully water is soft, so don’t worry if it takes you a bunch of tries to get it right! A board rental will cost you about $20 - $30 per day.
The other option is to take a lesson. There are many places that offer them, and it’s usually less stressful then trying to figure it all out by yourself. This is probably how most people enjoy their first experience with surfing. Lessons usually range from $60 - $100.
