The feast began as a celebration when King Kamehameha II abolished the previous practice of men and women dining separately.

Royal Lahaina Luau:
This family oriented Polynesian Luau features dances from different Polynesian islands including the fire dances of Samoa. On family nights admission for one child under 12 is free with each full-paying adult.
